I’ll be honest with you. In the past, I haven’t exactly counted the seconds before the next Solid Earth User Summit. The Summit is an annual event where we bring all our client Staff people (and hopefully some of their organization leadership) into one room and bang out two days of non-stop talking, drinking, talking, eating and talking. Up until 2011, all that talking had been about LIST-IT (our legacy MLS product).
In 2011 it was all about how LIST-IT had begun to run its course and we were building the next great thing in real estate technology. Spring was officially born. I can tell you that the audience was somewhat dubious. I can’t blame them. We were a little nervous ourselves.
In 2012 we had a great deal more to show on this new product, which was nice, but all everyone really wanted to know was how LIST-IT was going to get better. After all, that was the product everyone was using. “Spring you say? Call me when it’s done” was the general sentiment. Despite the beautiful Charleston, South Carolina setting (and LOTS of open bar opportunities), that Summit was a difficult one. We had one old product still chugging along and one new product not nearly completed.
Now here we are in 2013 and we already have one current client using Spring and two others on the calendar for this month and next – and a new MLS just signed up at Midyear. Are my clients still concerned about the progress of LIST-IT? Of course and so are we. BUT, progress is undeniable with Spring.
And we’re not just patting ourselves on the back (although that is fun). Some pretty important people in our business had some great things to say about the work we’re doing.
So, I’m looking forward to this year’s Summit for a few reasons. We still have plenty of heavy lifting ahead of us to achieve “MLS” by the time we land in San Francisco for NAR, but I’d say we’re well on our way to that critical benchmark.
For once, we can stop talking about a long list of features in the future tense and begin talking about implementation. My clients need to know exactly how they get from LIST-IT (or any legacy MLS) to Spring. A public portal (as you may have heard) has some new challenges. How can Solid Earth help with that migration…politically, financially, logistically…
THAT’S where the Summit is this year and I couldn’t be happier about it.
See you in Chattanooga.
